The Fatted Calf is bringing a lot to our Saturday morning this week. Not only do they have some pork Crepinettes with hazelnuts and wine soaked figs, but they are doing their Wieners this week too. Don’t discount this little guys for something ordinary. Even if you dislike hotdogs & balogna, you will love these little doggies. The texture isn’t quite as smooth as you’d think and the skins do snap. A very rich and tasty treat. The tough thing is finding bread good enough to saddle them up right. I hope to see you at the market first thing, don’t wait. He sells out quick.
on with the show
oooOOoo I spy pepperoni
Have you ever considered whether you?re highbrow or lowbrow? If you?re like Team Fatted Calf, you?re happiest with a little of both. Sure, curing a whole foie gras for Thanksgiving is great, but so is gumbo and Dixie Beer. NPR is great, but check all the buttons on our car radio; so is grungy punk rock. PBS/Entertainment Tonight, The New Yorker/Us, Nordstrom/Goodwill–hey, they?re all good for somethin?. Sometimes nothing but the most special, most high falutin?, impress-your- friends thing will do. And sometimes, who wants to bother? Pass the Dixie. You know where this is going don?t you? Yup, we want to offer you a host of highbrow and lowbrow (not too lowbrow, you know us) deliciousness for your 4th of July weekend. Here?s an idea: mix it up. Have your pork crepinettes with hazelnuts and wine soaked figs on a crusty roll and call it a burger. Put some of our Wieners on homemade brioche buns, with h omemade pickled onions and fancy mustard, and have the highest-brow hot dogs ever. Smear some Duck Rillettes on a baguette and take it to the ball game. Smuggle in a half bottle of Cotes du Rhone to have with it. It brings a whole new meaning to Independence.
