I have been meaning to stop in here at El Jaliciense for ages and since I just
left the Arvada Arts Center seeing a cool car show…..
Ordered up pork chops with iced tea for Sunday lunch. I was the only gringo
in the place so I was hopeful.
The chops arrived hidden by caramelized grilled white onions, rice, beans with LARD, small salad and corn tortillas. Gallon size iced tea. Welllll….the pork was pretty good. Not stellar but nice and white inside with the usual grease sliding around. Thin chops and a tad tough but not bad.
Beans were correct with lard, fresh avocado and great salsa for the chips.
The onions were a welcome change as any onion device is a worship session on Sunday. An odd languid pathos hovered in the air as if I were trapped in a J.G. Ballard novel. An occasional fly buzzed about, seemingly lost and uninspired. They appear to concentrate on seafood and some grilled shrimp looked good as they wandered by to another table. I will stop in again while in the neighborhood, but I don’t think I will drive a distance to eat here again. Too much fantastic Mexican food in Denver that is way closer to my side of town. Note the requisite Cadillacs in the parking lot photos; indicative of some Denver Blue Hairs inside…..

I agree. The food was good but I have some good Mexican restaurants much closer to me that I will continue to go to instead.
El Jaliciense is one of my favorite, and I have A LOT to chose from. Teh seafood is definitely the way to go here. The Adovada and A La Diabla sauces make all their fish and shrimp dishes divine. I wouldn’t bother with pork chops, when the carnitas are totally dilicious. And what’s wrong with Lard, unless you’re on a diet? It’s what makes beans so delicious.
