Holy Quail! We sneak off to Rome for 2 teeny weeks, and look what happened. The menu is huge, the Berkeley Market days have doubled, to TWO a week- and Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Good thing we’re not jet lagged at all, and we can zip through this thing in no time!
Are you hungry enough? We’re thinking you should start trying to get even hungrier right about now. If you you usually take the stairs at BART, we prescribe taking them 2 at a time for the next 2 months. Read a lot of cook books. Get some appetite, people, pronto. You see, now that there are two market days, two kinds of Confit Terrine, and two-trillion (practically) kinds of other meaty delights on offer at Fatted Calf, you need some calorie deficit. Maybe it’s our Roman frame of mind, but the Crepinettes with Porcini are calling our name. And scroll down, if you would, to our Cured Meats section. Holy Finocchiona, have you ever seen so many items? That takes care of that appetizer platter you promised you’d bring. Glace de Viande for silky, lump-free gravy. Sage sausage or Boudin Blanc sausage with chestnuts for your stuffing. Need a hostess gift? Rillettes, we hear, are the new scented candle. Just don’t confuse them.
