Lodge Cast Iron Goes Enamel

Hooyah it is a darned slow week. I’m truly not inspired for much of anything and you know what? I don’t care. Relax I say. Sit down and think about stuff. And speaking of thinking & reading, I was perusing the tv guide this last weekend and ran across a new cooking show, Camp Fire Cafe.

It listed as a cooking show and had the word campfire in it, count me in. My jaw was on the floor for ten minutes, I thought the guys voice was a cartoon character, nope. It’s Johnny Nix, your host and mine. He beats out Cee Dub from Dutch Oven Cooking hands down. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not poking too much fun here. The guy can certainly cook over a real fire, that ain’t easy. Especially when you’re doing bread and/or casseroles. Even so, it was a giggle fest enjoyed to the tenth degree. Please do yourself a favor and see if you can’t find Campfire Cafe.
Oh yeah, this post was supposed to have something to do with the Lodge Enameled cookware. Okay, well see I was over at the Campfire Cafe web site and sawr a listing for Lodge’s Enamel cookware, I had no idea they’d started making it. They do, I checked and it looks GREAT. The colors are brilliant & punchy and if it’s Lodge you know the cast iron is top notch. It’s a really nice American alternative to the Le Creueset, sort of. Apparently they import the enamel from France for the American cast iron. Close, eh?
I really like the new shiny handles for the lids, very nice touch. I could really use a 7 quart rig and was getting my hopes up, but the damned things cost 200 bux. Which, I suppose if you really need a dutch type oven to last an entire life time or more, this is a steal. But 200 bux is 200 bux. I’ll wait.
So, if you’re in the need, take a look. I’m sure these nifty items are superior in person just as they are in a .jpg.

  1. Hey Larry,
I still check in from time to time. I’d be more inspired, but not sure our local fire department would look kindly on doing real dutch oven cooking over a fire. I’d love it though.
