Tiny E’s Burger Dog – The Boy Got His Bun

I rolled home the other day with a pound of freshly gound beef chuck under my arm, ready to make the boys some burgers, they love burgers. After putting my things down I checked the food stuffs for hamburger buns, no buns. See, personally I can take or leave buns for home made burgers. We didn’t have them when I was growing up, just didn’t seem to matter either way. But our boys care, they love their burgers & dogs on buns. This of course, in no way means they’ll EAT the buns, but they’re there just in case. What to do? Hmm, we had hamburger meat and I found some hot dog buns. Hamburger meat and hot dog buns, oh dear.

I was snickering the entire time I made these, I was having fun with meat once again. At first I started with 1/4 pound for each dog and they came up too small, not enough to fill the bun, considering shrinkage. So I tacked on some more, done.

You gotta be careful with these or they’ll break REAL easy. So, I would recommend only turning them when absolutely necessary and using two spatulas to do so. And that is pretty much that. I would have done up a fancy one for ya, but the kids were hungry and this one here was for Big Z.
Speaking of himself, he loved the idea and smiled during his entire meal. I suppose I’ll do this again some time, it was a lot of fun and it really shouldn’t matter what shape the burger is in as long as you have a bun, eh?

ps – Tiny E did not eat his bun, nope.

  1. Fabulous. Good photo. Paper plates, too, eh? Spare no expense!
Hey, you could try forming the burgie-doggies on metal skewers; might make for easier turning.
    xx

  2. While I have never quite developed a love of burger dogs myself, I must say that that first photo is stunning. It makes me actually want to set up lighting for my shots and rethink my stance on the ‘dogs.

  3. Hey Nic,
Thanks for the kind words, hey.
I thought you were doing excellent with your images. I remember the first few you posted and they only got better and better over time. It took me a lot longer and am still having problems with plating. I just don’t get it.
