A warm summer’s evening, the sun goes down on yet another beautiful July. The boy’s hair has been growing at an alarming rate. I’m one of those fathers that curse the electric company and spew as I run the house turning off each bulb, each computer monitor and check the fridge door. If I could milk my own cows to save forty cents, I’d be there.
Mama has asked me over and over again to take the boys to get their hairs cut. I agreed at the time, but knew I could save a few bucks by doing it myself. At eleven years old Z has met my hair cutting ‘skill’ more than a few times, which is why Mama wants me to have it correctly done.
I had my way tonight and before anyone knew it, they were shorn.
They will surely get hassled by mates, but I saved over 20 dollars.
Do you remmeber?
I remember when I had hair like your boys’s. ‘My Dad’ (WW2 Vet), would say “Paul, get your hair cut anyway you want”. I would tell,Joe the barber “Only trim it”(1970). Joe would buzz me, cause my Dad had told Joe how to cut it.
No way can you hurt those gorgeous boys, no matter what instrument you use to cut their hair! Actually, not a bad job, there, Pops! Keep at it and you can add the skill to your resume’!

Doc,
And $20 is certainly more valuable than your children’s self esteem.{g}
Hey Kevin,
I don’t believe in self esteem. We watch after them 24/7 so they make all the right choices, whether they want to or not. They feel great and look great. They get that from me.

At least you didn’t cut any flesh this time.
It’s a good thing they love you and don’t really give a hoot about how the look (like their Dad*). Wait till they hit sixteen; you’re gonna miss these days.
*Red high-top converse, cut off jeans and a leather motorcycle jacket? GHGCYG!
Awww…they look cute!
What pretty curls and beautiful eyes!
When this young hippie boy went to visit his Texas grandpa he would give me two choices. I could go with him to the barbershop for a crewcut or he could put a bowl over my head and cut off everything that stuck out. I usually had a crewcut whenever I went to Texas.
Biggles, those are some beautiful boys. I’ve seen their mama and I know why.
Haircuts are pretty sensitive matters. We left our son with my in-laws while we went away for a weekend and when we came back our golden-curled boy looked like a little recruit (at just over two). I wept for hours. I have never forgiven that.
He more than made up for it with his long hair in adolescence, something I’m sure he pines for now that the line is receding a bit.
At least boys never had to go through the horrors of home perms!!
Oh wow – your boys are beautiful! That’s a really sweet photo. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Look at those handsome young fellers. Their Dad may pinch a penny or two with the haircuts, not that you’d notice, but he makes up for it by the high grade goodies in the fridge every week, for sure.
Gorgeous kids! Lots of personality, it’s clear! My BIL gives the boys (one with hair like yours’) buzz cuts every summer. When the curls start to grow out … there’s no NOT running your fingers through them!
Hey Diane,
Thanks! They’re home grown, we made them ourselves.

I used to cut my own hair. Even with children’s scissors! But that’s neither hair nor there.
I have an incredible barber in Oakland! Perfect fades! Let me know, their ‘cuts will be on me. Mmmmmm the feel of the straigh-trazor on the neck of pillowy shaving cream.
Gorgeous kiddos u got there! Wonder what their Mama looks like. I’m sure just as beautiful as those two little guys.
