Chili Cook-Off & Car Show – Rodeo California

Hey listen up you lunkheads. Not only do you get a chance for a Chili Cook-Off, but you get to watch my good friend and yours, Chilebrown, compete! He’s entered and got his team nearly put together. And unlike local BBQ competitions, you’ll be able to sample the goods. Cool, eh?
Saturday, September 15th from 10am to 4pm come have a visit. If you’re wondering how you’ll find ol’ CB, here you go.

You can’t miss’im. See you there!

UPDATE: Team Chilebrown WON !!!

I had to work on Saturday and didn’t have the time to spend all day hanging out. So on a break, I headed out and got there about 10:30, just as the place opened up. It took me a little bit to find Chilebrown’s tent, the food & health department had them shut down tight. You’d have to be a few inches from the mesh to see in at all. The clue that lead me in was a little image of The Pragmatic Chef’s Survival Spice Chle and Ms. Goofy were in fine spirits, everything was in place. The kitchen was peaceful and all had smiles. This is a good sign, eh?
I poked around and was told 12 noon was taste time. Even so, it tasted pretty darned good.

I don’t know what the finished product tasted like, but from what I hear it was enough to win him 1st Place and a 300 dollar prize. Congratulations Team Chilebrown, you deserve it.

  1. Oh What the Hell! Come on by. Say Hello. Eat some Chili. Blog about it, Good or Bad. We think we have an awarding chili. I hate to admit it but we have, Tri Tip (Choice),fresh beans, and Texas Chili Powder.(Gunpowder) I think the best ingredient is Friends!!

  2. When I first saw this I thought I would have to go to a rodeo — forgetting there’s a town named that. Good luck to Chilebrown (though I doubt he will need it)!

  3. Hey I hope to see you there.
    And Must Stop…..
    F. Brooks’ Chilli Booth it’s the one to bet!!!!!!!

  4. In the 7 1/2 (but who’s counting) years I lived in that town (next to the atomic and nuclear workers union hall, I kid you not), nothing near this tasty ever happened there. I’ll try to stop by 🙂

  5. Hi, I,m going to be entering this yr chili cook off in Rodeo, and was wondering if you can give me some guidelines like is there any health codes because I understand you have the cook chili there, where when I enter another chili cook-off I could cook it at home. also do u have any pictures of the cook off so I can see how it was set up? thank you looking forward to see you there if you enter.

  6. Hey Candice,
It looks as though Chilebrown will not be attending the upcoming cookoff, phooey. As far as the health codes/rules go, they change. You should have or will receive soon all applicable codes/rules to cook and serve by.
The best thing you can do is to practice. Have your team meet a few times and run it through, work out the kinks and make sure you have what you need. Sorry, don’t have any pictures of the setup! Good luck!
