Trevino’s Mexican Food – Richmond, CA

Today’s lunch makes about 2 decent meals this week. For me, that’s a pretty good ratio. Most of the time it is some dumb sandwich or something equally manky, grey or dripping something you wouldn’t normally ingest. Today I decided to go somewhere different, even if it is the same type of food, Mexican.

Since I usually eat lunch about 11am, the lunch crowd hasn’t made it out yet. Fine with me, the staff are somewhat less freaked and the service tends to be quicker. Oh and don’t forget being able to find a damn parking place, always a plus. Big D and I were greeted directly and shown to our table. I was impressed
with the chairs (see pic below), very cool. The waiters (no hip chicks to talk to) were dressed in starched whites with dark slacks and ‘right there’. I mean, this place is run like a clock. Everyone is very attentive and if they weren’t directly doing anything off they went to fold napkins.
The freshly made tortilla chips with two kinds of salsa came right away. The chips had clearly been kept very warm, papa like. They were very crispy, fresh and just enough salt to make them tastee. I was surprised the two salsas were so good, tart, rich and had just the right amount of zip. No nasty Pace crap.
The menus followed quickly, included was their normal dinner items with an insert for lunch. Since the lunch menu was about 3 bucks cheaper than the dinner, I decided it might be on the better side to choose a lunch. As soon as my eyes found the Chile Verde Meat plato, I was there, no need to look further.
So far, Trevino’s had a 10 for service, at least that for decor and the chips/salsas were definitely contenders. Keep in mind, this is for a nice lunch during the week. Not something to shout to the world that these people were frying up miracles, lordy.
Pow, lunch was served. Big D ordered the Chile Colorado, looked and tasted like it should. My Chile Verde was a bit tart, rich with meat flavor and a solid good taste factor. The rice was perky high up top yummy that wasn’t mushy or old. The refried were rich as well with cheesy cheese on top. All this rolled in to a warm corn tortilla and I was on my way to a happy tummy.
The water glasses were never empty and dirty dishes were removed promptly. Oh and the green salad served before the meal was really good with a bright, clean, & perky dressing. I asked for Italian Dressing, ASS. As soon as it slipped out I felt like a real derk.
With tip this somewhat large & tasty meal ended up about 20 bux and a thank you for lunch to Big D. He paid for it.

Again, this isn’t a chile verde dinner plate like you’d find in Denver (hey Joe Bob, whar’s my articles?), their green chile is legendary. But Trevino’s really delivers a great meal on a very hot plate. I will go back, I will eat again.

  4. Hmm, well I apologize to anyone if I ever said anything against Trevinos. I don’t remember saying anything, but apparently I’ve stepped on some toes there.
Time to go to the market for my HAM ROAST.

  5. The quality of this restaurant food and service is nothing short of superb. The tacos are heavenly fresh and crispy, the chile colorado is to die for. Haven’t yet tried the chile verde which comes highly recommended. But the Margaritas even for a nondrinker like me are absolutely delicious. GREAT FOOD!!!!

  6. Hi Aida,
It is good food, but I have to say the consistency of the food and service brings me back time and time again. I don’t believe it’s a destination restaurant, but it is most certainly a gem of a place for this area that we can call enjoy.
